Ciara Mageean won the Athlete of the Year award and Sonia O’Sullivan enters Hall of Fame

World Championship 1500m finalist Ciara Mageean named as the athlete of the year at the Irish Life Health National Athletics Awards, which took place in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown on Thursday.

Nothing at all counts more than medals and records in the sport, and Ciara Mageean is the one who successfully reached out and grabbed more awards in 2019. And this fittingly earned her the Athlete of the Year award at the Irish Life/Athletics Ireland awards. Besides, she has also earned the Track and Field Athlete of the Year award alongside other worthy recipients.

Mageean at the award ceremony was preceded on to the stage by Sonia O’Sullivan, who on her 50th birthday inducted into the Athletics Ireland Hall of Fame. According to reports, no Irish athlete to date has or will ever set more records or win more medals than O’Sullivan. However, Mageean seems to be somewhere close in a few.
