Patri Starlight Writes About Cody Linley
We are so excited to feature the Beautiful and Sweet Patri Starlight. We spoke with Patri about her new release “Chad Would be Proud” which is not just another song about the actor Cody Linley, but a Love letter from God to him! Read below about Patri’s inspiration behind it and how The Los Angeles Film School played a big part in her growth as a songwriter.
GRECIA JIMENEZ: HI PATRI! HOW WAS THE PROCESS OF WRITING “CHAD WOULD BE PROUD”?
Patri Starlight – I call it “Heaven Writing”. God speaks, I listen and write what I hear. Before I came up with the lyrics I heard the melody through Long Prayers for a couple of months, and when I felt ready to tell the story behind “Chad would be proud” I just went for it! It’s not just a normal song but one of those that, as you listen, the atmosphere of any room changes and so does your life!
GRECIA JIMENEZ: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE CODY AND HIS BROTHER AS THE THEME OF THE SONG?
Patri Starlight – I have a lot of respect for him. I don’t see him as “The Actor from Hannah Montana” but a Warrior and a Wonderful human being who went through challenges and came out stronger! The truth is… I never chose to write about it for me! God chose me because He loves him! I am just an Ordinary Girl who so happens to have an Extraordinary God.
GRECIA JIMENEZ: WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO MOVE TO LOS ANGELES AND TAKE CLASSES AT THE LOS ANGELES FILM SCHOOL? HOW HAVE THEY INFLUENCED YOUR GROWTH AS A SONGWRITER?
Patri Starlight – I was living in my country when suddenly I went through a home invasion. A guy kept me hostage for hours and hit me several times. I no longer felt safe and decided to move to South Korea, where I was focusing on my recovery and doing musical theater. Suddenly, I had a dream where I saw myself looking for more knowledge… that truly inspired me to take a leap of faith and finish college. After Asking God where He wanted me to move next, Los Angeles Film School was the only college I could think about and I will never regret making that decision. They have been such a blessing to me; I was able to learn powerful songwriting techniques! For example, Something unique about them is that every teacher shows you something valuable that helps you grow as an artist but also as the same time as a person.
