PM Modi to hold a meeting with chief ministers of various states over a resurgence in Covid-19 cases

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with chief ministers of various states over the ongoing Covid-19 situation in the country, through video conferencing today. The PM had conducted several meetings in the last six months with chief ministers over the pandemic.

The Government of India has planned to appoint top Central teams to Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to strengthen these states in Covid-19 response and management. The Union Ministry said that these states are either witnessing an increase in the number of cases i.e. those who are hospitalized or are in home isolation under medical supervision, or showing mount in the daily new cases.

The three-member teams will make a visit to the districts reporting a high number of Covid cases and help the State’s attempts towards reinforcing containment, testing, surveillance, infection prevention and control measures and resourceful clinical management of the positive cases, the Health Ministry said.

The Central government had previously sent high-level teams to Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Manipur and Chhattisgarh. On 20th November, PM Modi held a meeting to assess India’s vaccination strategy and discussed significant matters related to the progress of vaccine development, regulatory agreements and procurement with top officials.

On Monday, India’s Covid cases crossed the 91-lakh mark after 44,059 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In India, the total cases reached 91,39,866 including 4,43,486 active cases and 85,62,641 recoveries.  The death toll escalated to 1,33,738, with 511 new deaths.

On average, the country is reporting around 30,000 to 47,000 daily new cases for the last few days. In the meanwhile, the main purpose of the review meeting is about the development of a mechanism for proficient delivery of vaccine and classification of precedence receivers.
