Punjab Cops detain Khalistan Sympathiser Amritpal Singh

The Punjab Police have arrested Amritpal Singh, the leader of a radical Sikh group, and six of his supporters. The situation became tense in the state as internet connections were being snapped in parts of the state after news of the arrest of Amritpal Singh being arrested post a dramatic chase.

The cops have arrested six others too, who are reportedly close to the radical preacher. Punjab Police, however, has so far neither given any official confirmation nor denied it. The sources told India Today TV that the Punjab Police was in constant touch with Union Home Ministry while taking an action against the Separatist leader.

Earlier in the day, six of his aides were detained in Jalandhar and later they were questioned at an unclosed location. This morning, over 50 police vehicles chased the Khalistani leader and his aides in an attempt to arrest him after the state police traced his recent location near Shahkot.

The mobile services are restricted in several districts of Punjab and it is expected the restrains will continue till tomorrow. All mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall be suspended from March 18 (12:00 hours) to March 19 (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety,” an order issued by Punjab’s Department of Home Affairs and Justice.
