Singer-Songwriter Spade Talks About Her Fitness & Lifestyle

Spade is from Toronto, Canada, and she is a rising pop music artist who is ready to take on the music world.

RITIKA: WHAT’S FITNESS ACCORDING TO YOU?
Spade: Fitness is definitely a lifestyle for me. Being a singer, it is so important to have a healthy diet and workout routine. Some of my live performances involve dancing and moving while singing!! Cardio is a MUST to maintain my stamina. I feel so much better about my self when I have a good routine of eating healthy meals and working out. Consistency is key.

RITIKA: AT WHAT AGE OR STAGE OF YOUR LIFE DID FITNESS BECOME A MAJOR PART OF YOUR LIFESTYLE?
Spade: I was always active growing up. I was really big on dance and swimming… so that was my form of exercise. It wasn’t until my late teens that I started to solidify a work out routine and a healthy diet that worked well with my body. I was super lucky growing up because I never had to worry about watching what I eat or getting enough exercise. I quickly realized when I got older that I should definitely start building better habits now to benefit me in the long run.

RITIKA: I OFTEN TELL PEOPLE THAT DEDICATION TO FITNESS STARTS WITH MOTIVATION. WHO OR WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO WORKOUT AND EAT HEALTHILY?
Spade: The feeling after. I feel so rejuvenated and energized after I work out. Not so much during haha. I also feel really good when I am eating healthy foods that nourish my body and give me energy.

RITIKA: WHAT’S YOUR TYPICAL WORKOUT ROUTINE?
Spade: I like to do a HIIT workout routine 5-6 days a week that lasts about 15 minutes. It’s a mix of cardio, abs, arms and legs. This particular workout is very intense. I also like to incorporate hot yoga about 2 times a week. I find it really stretches out my muscles and grounds me from the intense HIIT workouts I do regularly.

RITIKA: WHAT GENRES OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO WHILE YOU’RE WORKING OUT?
Spade: I definitely have a mix of genres going on when I am working out. My playlist consists of Spanish music, top 40’s pop, and 70-80’s throwbacks. They usually are all super uptempo to keep my motivation going.

RITIKA: WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MEAL OF THE DAY?
Spade: I love LUNCH! Salads seriously excite me. There is nothing better then having a good salad for lunch.

RITIKA: WHAT’S THE MAIN RULE IN YOUR DIET?
Spade: My main rule is to not go crazy with carbs. I am of Italian heritage, so I grew up eating pasta and pizza A LOT. I find carbs make me feel super bloated in my stomach region. I don’t totally cancel carbs out of my diet. I do think they are important to have, I just really watch how many carbs I am consuming on a day to day basis. I usually have a carb in one meal every day… and it’s a small portion. Unless it’s a cheat day of course 😉

RITIKA: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHEAT MEAL?
Spade: Mac and Cheese is my number 1 favourite cheat meal.

RITIKA: DOES IT DRIVE YOU CRAZY WHEN YOU DON’T GET TO EXERCISE?
Spade: It does. If I am not active, I can feel my self not being motivated. It also gives me a sense of routine and structure.

RITIKA: WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER WORKOUT HEAVEN?
Spade: Like I mentioned before, I really find calmness in yoga. I have such a busy schedule on a day to day basis and it is so beneficial to dedicate a few hours a week to really find my centre.

RITIKA: ONE FITNESS AND LIFESTYLE ADVICE YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO OUR READERS
Spade: Fitness is a process. I did not get the hang of it until recently. Lots of trial and error. There are such amazing Youtubers that have so much insight on fitness. One in particular that I love is Chloe Ting. Also- don’t beat your self up if you don’t see results right away! It takes time.
