Congress Leader’s Instagram Post On Kangana Ranaut Sparks Controversy

A recent Instagram post by a Congress leader regarding actor Kangana Ranaut’s foray into electoral politics has ignited a fresh wave of controversy, drawing sharp criticism and demands for action. The post, which accompanied a photo of Ranaut, appeared on the Instagram handle of Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, just weeks ahead of the national elections. Kangana Ranaut is contesting the elections on a BJP ticket from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.

In response to Shrinate’s remarks, Kangana Ranaut took to social media to address the issue directly. Emphasizing the need to liberate daughters from societal prejudices and stereotypes, Ms. Ranaut highlighted her diverse portrayals of women in various roles throughout her career, urging respect and dignity for every woman.

Following the uproar, Supriya Shrinate issued a video clarification, asserting that the “inappropriate posts” were made from her account without her knowledge and were promptly deleted upon discovery. She attributed the incident to multiple individuals accessing her social media accounts and condemned the unauthorized post as not reflecting her personal views or values.

However, despite the clarification, the controversy continued to escalate, with Kangana Ranaut sharing screenshots of derogatory remarks made by a Gujarat Congress leader regarding her electoral debut. The politicization of Ranaut’s candidacy and the sexualization of her political aspirations drew condemnation from various quarters, including Union Minister Smriti Irani, who expressed solidarity with Ranaut and criticized the Congress for its alleged sexist tendencies.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) also intervened, calling for immediate and strict action against those responsible for the derogatory remarks. In a statement, the NCW condemned the behavior as disgraceful and intolerable and stressed the importance of upholding women’s dignity in public discourse.

The incident reminds us of the challenges faced by women in public life and the imperative of fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity in political discourse.

The demand for accountability and the push for action against those responsible reflect a broader societal aspiration for dignity and equality, transcending political affiliations and partisan divides.
