Police Mass Near UCLA Pro-Palestinian Protest Camp After Violent Clashes

Following violent clashes between pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian demonstrators, law enforcement officers gathered in large numbers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The clashes had erupted near a pro-Palestinian protest camp, leading to the cancellation of classes by the university.

Live footage showed police officers in tactical gear moving onto the UCLA campus, where pro-Palestinian activists had set up tents. Some activists were seen preparing for a possible raid by wearing protective gear such as hard hats and respirator masks.

Prior to the police action, officers used loudspeakers to urge demonstrators to vacate the protest area. The encampment, declared unlawful by the university, had been the site of largely peaceful protests before the violent altercation.

The police presence at UCLA came after similar actions in New York City, where pro-Palestinian activists were arrested for occupying buildings at Columbia University and City College of New York. Mayor Eric Adams reported approximately 300 arrests in total, with charges including trespassing and criminal mischief.

These events are part of a broader wave of student activism across the United States in response to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Students at various universities have been protesting Israel’s actions in Gaza and calling for divestment from companies supporting the Israeli government.
